Initiative Overview

The Children’s Mental Health Service Initiative is an innovative approach to develop and establish a comprehensive, integrated mental health system of care for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances and their families. The Initiative provides services using Wraparound principles.

A child/youth may be eligible for services if s/he:

  2. Is currently in or may be placed in a highly structured group home and
  3. Requires a high level of mental health services and
  4. Has significant difficulty functioning at home, current placement, school, or in the community.

Siblings of these children/youth may be eligible.

Other children/youth may be eligible if s/he:

  1. Requires a high level of mental health services and
  2. Is having significant difficulty functioning at home, current placement, school, or in the community and
  3. Is at risk for high level intervention in one area:

The Children, Youth and Family Network (CYFN) and a group of local mental health providers, in collaboration with other community based organizations, provide services to these children/youth and families within their community.
